Why Do We Say Trick or Treat?

Did you know many Halloween traditions began in the region now called Scotland, part of the United Kingdom? For example, there was an early Scottish practice called “guising,” where children dressed up in costumes and went door to door, performing songs or tricks in exchange for food. In North America, this evolved about a century ago into the phrase “trick or treat,” which suggested that if no treat were given, a trick could be played. The phrase quickly caught on, and today it’s a beloved part of Halloween celebrations across the world!  Luckily, in Cubric, there are tricks and treats to enjoy!
